"So we were in the kitchen, and my dad is telling my glf all about the time we "boxed." He's going on and on about me being garbage, and then he starts talking cars, and how his vette (C4) is faster etc. I tell him that he's always bragging about that, but he doesn't really know. Some of you may recall that I posted a vid a couple months ago of us racing and him beating me handily. I launched at about 2000 rpms that day. *shrug*
We drive about 20 minutes out of town to a nice empty stretch of highway. It's crisp, clear afternoon with a slight chill in the air. We give the tires a warm-up, and then line up. He's in an automatic, so there's little possibility that I could win the race due to his bad driving - he's quite good with a manual anyways.

I say "go" and we're off! I slipped the clutch at around 3100 rpms until I get out of the hole, but he was half a car length ahead until about 60 mph, and after that the Z pulled away decisively. It must be noted that there was no traction to be had in 1st gear - but 2nd held quite nicely (thankfully it wasn't too cold that day). The second run was even better - I managed to be dead even with him on the launch and up through about 50 mph - then it was all Z again. The third race was pretty much in between the first and second. I've become quite adept at getting this beast off the line - getting out of the hole at the same rate as an automatic v8 is pretty good in my book =).

It was great fun to have some friendly competition with my dad. We've had a history of not getting along, but things have changed recently and I am very thankful for that. Also, it was nice to finally hand him his ass - even if it was something so silly as a drag race. I didn't bother to rub it in - I was happy just to have beaten him =).

Hope you guys enjoyed your thanksgiving and took the time to reevalute how much you all have to be thankful for.

P.S. Don't street race."
